This is a major project on its own, requiring a status-quo analysis of your salon environment, routines, services and habits. That said, today there are already many little improvements you can implement “on-the-go.” So get those changes started today and bring sustainability to life in your salon with our tips and tricks.
STEPS YOU CAN TAKE NOW
REDUCE YOUR ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
Here are some of many things you can do:

ban all products containing plastic microbeads –
as we do since 2016.

use only bio-degradable household cleaners

have a public “energy advisor” analyze your salon to identify weak areas in your sustainability chain

decorate your salon with plants – this reduces your carbon footprint & creates a natural, friendly atmosphere
REDUCE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

incentivizing sustainable commuting within your team (public transport, bicycle or car sharing)

reducing the water temperature in your sinks by 1-2°C

reducing your room temperature to 21°C
CONSERVE WATER
Take initial steps in the right direction, e.g. by

combing out the color mass before rinsing

using easy-to-clean color mixing & application tools (e.g. Goldwell Colormat)

installing water-saving sink units or shower heads
SAVE ENERGY
You can start today:

run your washing machine with full loads to avoid unnecessary cycles

remove curtains and window shades to bring in natural light – this will brighten up your salon
-
replace outdated electrical devices with modern, energy-efficient models

switch to wind, water or solar power – change your energy provider if necessary
REDUCE WASTE
Every little bit helps! Here's what you can do:
- use washable rather than plastic capes

try freehand color techniques as alternative to foil streaks

For better recyclability, use uncolored aluminum foil and wipe off color residues before disposal.

mix color/product masses gradually to avoid unnecessary product waste – if you need more, you can always mix again
- avoid unnecessary use of single-dose products
- introduce visible waste separation (paper, plastics, trash) for your team and your clients
- to empty a color tube completely, use a press – or switch to cans, which generate 50% less product waste than tubes¹
